Myanmar Investment Commission opens education services sector to foreign investment

On 20 April 2018, the Myanmar Investment Commission issued Notification 7/2018 (“MIC Notification”) which provides that foreign investment is permitted both through the full capital investment of a foreign entity or through a joint venture with a Myanmar company in the following categories of educational institutions:
- Private basic education school;
- Private technical, vocational and training school;
- Private higher education school;
- Private subject based school;
- Private school designated by the Ministry.
These schools can teach a curriculum prescribed by the Ministry of Education and other relevant Ministries or adopt an international curriculum.
